Demurrage is a charge payable to the carrier in respect of failure to load or discharge the vessel within the time agreed. This can be added to any job needed in PropDispatch. 


Setting up a Demurrage Template


If you are using Hauling Templates and would like to assign demurrage to the carrier as well, this must be done through a demurrage template that will be linked to the job.  


Step 1:

One the left side select “Company Settings”. Under settings select “Demurrage Template” and then “+Add Demurrage Template”


Step 2: 

In Demurrage Template Settings, you will fill out the following:

  • Demurrage Template Name
  • District (Optional)
  • Crew (Optional)
  • Operator (Optional)
  • Terminal (Optional)


Step 3: 

If you would like to add Demurrage to your job click the slider to “Yes” then you will fill out the following:

  • Free Time At Terminal (Mins): Period of time allowed At Terminal before demurrage begins for each load
  • Demurrage Rate At Terminal ($/Hour): Hourly rate of demurrage At Terminal which begins after going past the allotted free time set
  • Free Time At Destination (Mins): Period of time allowed At Destination before demurrage begins occurring for each load
  • Demurrage Rate At Destination ($/Hour): Hourly rate of demurrage At Destination after going past the allotted free time.


Basic Demurrage Example

Free Time at Terminal – 15 Minutes

Demurrage Rate at Terminal – $60/hr

Free Time at Destination – 15 Minutes

Demurrage Rate at Destination - $60/hr

 

Max Cap at Terminal – 60 Minutes

Max Cap at Destination – 60 Minutes

 

Driver Joe does a load and spends two hours At Terminal and two hours At Destination. Joe receives $60 demurrage from At Terminal and $60 demurrage from At Destination for a total of $120 demurrage for that load.


Step 4:

If you would like to add Demurrage Cap to your job click the slider to “Yes” then you will fill out the following:


IMPORTANT: You will need to select the dropdown what you would like your cap to be based on

You will then need to select between two choices for the demurrage cap

  • Use Separate Cap for Terminal/Destination: Individual maximums for both the terminal and destination demurrage amounts  in minutes
  • Use an overall cap regardless of Terminal/Destination: One maximum amount of demurrage regardless of whether time is accrued At Terminal or At Destination


Step 5:

When Advanced Settings is moved to “Yes”, the following options are available:

  • 24 Hour Reset (at Time):
    1. Reset period for demurrage to being accruing again, based on appointment time
  • Multiple Loads:
    1. No. of Loads- Amount of loads available for demurrage within a certain time frame before demurrage is over
    2. Dem. Reset Periods in Hours (i.e. 12, 24): Reset period for demurrage to being accruing again, based on appointment time
  • 24 Hour Reset (by Period):
    1. At load acceptance: Demurrage will reset in 24 hours when a load is accepted by a driver
    2. Once demurrage is first incurred: Reset in 24 hours when a driver first incurs demurrage

Free Time at Terminal – 15 Minutes

Demurrage Rate at Terminal – $60/hr

Free Time at Destination – 15 Minutes

Demurrage Rate at Destination - $60/hr

 

Max Cap at Terminal – 30 Minutes

Max Cap at Destination – 30 Minutes

 

Advanced: Multiple Loads

Number of Loads: 3

Reset Period: 24 Hrs

 

Driver Bob does two loads, first appointment time at 11am and second at 5pm. Both loads he spends one hour at terminal and one hour at destination, he accrues 30 minutes from both terminal and destination on each load for a total of 120$.

If driver Bob finishes his day after his second load and waits 24 hours after his first load to start back up, his demurrage is good and will be paid.

If driver Bob goes for a third load with an appointment time of 10am, the demurrage from all 3 loads will be cancelled out and he will receive $0 demurrage because he went over the load cap.

 

Step 6:

Once all the information is entered, select “Add Template”. Once you begin adding a job you can select the demurrage plate needed.

Setting up a Demurrage Rate 


If you are using a Hauling Rate on a specific carrier, then you can setup a demurrage rate to go along with that hauling rate.


Step 1:

One the left side select “Carrier” click on "Cost Setting" then "Add Equipment". After setting up the carrier hauling rate the next step is the demurrage rate. 


If you would like to add Demurrage to your job click the slider to “Yes” then you will fill out the following:

  • Free Time At Terminal (Mins): Period of time allowed At Terminal before demurrage begins for each load
  • Demurrage Rate At Terminal ($/Hour): Hourly rate of demurrage At Terminal which begins after going past the allotted free time set
  • Free Time At Destination (Mins): Period of time allowed At Destination before demurrage begins occurring for each load
  • Demurrage Rate At Destination ($/Hour): Hourly rate of demurrage At Destination after going past the allotted free time.
